CALENDAR OF MEETINGS & EVENTS –

January
13-18 January   The Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC) to Prepare a Legally Binding Instrument on Mercury will convene for the 5th and final session to complete negotiations on a global agreement (most likely a convention) on mercury, including mercury-containing products, production processes (including mining) that utilize mercury, and mercury wastes.
17-18 January   The World Bank and the World Resources Institute's (WRI) sustainable transport center, EMBARQ, will co-host in Washington, DC the 10th annual "Transforming Transportation" event on sustainable transport. The event will discuss, among other things: opportunities for sustainable transport in Latin America; improving transport health and safety in cities; and bringing shared bicycle solutions to scale.
26-27 January   The fledgling Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) will hold its first-ever CELAC-European Union Summit in Santiago, Chile, under the theme "Alliance for Sustainable Development: Promoting Investments of Social and Environmental Quality."
28-30 January   The European Union-funded Multilateral Environment Agreements in African, Caribbean and Pacific countries ("ACP MEAs") Project will convene in Saint Lucia a Caribbean Regional Workshop on the Use of Integrated Environmental Assessment Tools for MEAs Mainstreaming to demonstrate the use of innovative integrated environmental assessment (IEA) tools to generate win-win scenarios for achieving national development priorities through more effective implementation of MEAs, with a focus on mainstreaming in relation to a cluster of biodiversity-related MEAs.
 
February
06-07 February   The Caribbean Weather Impacts Group (CARIWIG) Project will convene in Kingston, Jamaica its inaugural workshop and initial consultation bringing together managers, technical personnel and policymakers from 25 national, intergovernmental and regional entities to discuss how CARIWIG can best serve the Caribbean's water, agriculture and coastal resource sectors through reliable access to unbiased, locally-relevant climate change information in a manner that complements their planning cycles.
18-22 February   The 27th Session of the Governing Council (GC)/Global Ministerial Environment Forum (GMEF) of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) will convene in Nairobi, Kenya to discuss, inter alia: the new mercury convention:financing options for chemicals and wastes; sustainable consumption and production; and justice, governance and law for environmental sustainability.
25 February - 01 March   The Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) Secretariat will convene in St. Georges, Grenada, a Caribbean Subregional Workshop on Capacity-building for the Effective Implementation of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety.

07-09 March   The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) will hold a Conference on Sustainable Development in Latin America and the Caribbean in Bogotá, Colombia, to discuss regional perspectives on the global development agenda post-2015 and follow-up to the UN Conference on Sustainable Development ("Rio+20").
07-09 March   The Binational Authority of Lake Titicaca will hold an International Symposium on Lake Titicaca to participatory, scientific and technical approaches to the integrated water resources management (IWRM) of Lake Titicaca shared by Bolivia and Peru.
26-27 March   The UN Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization's (UNESCO) Man and the Biosphere Programme will convene in Basse-Terre, Saint Kitts Inter-Ministerial and Experts Conference on Biosphere Reserves in the Caribbean Sub-Region with the theme "Tools for Sustainable Development and Growth." The Conference will discuss the identification of appropriate locations for new biosphere reserves as well as their integration with local/national sustainable development and adaptation to climate change plans.
