In researching some posts on sustainable tourism recently, I came across an interesting free tool I thought I would pass on to readers of The Temas Blog. I also think I will add it to the Temas Recommended Reading List.
It's a set of how-to guides on certification for certification for ecotourism and sustainable tourism, all available free for download in both English and Spanish from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) website [IDB and its Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF) funded the handbooks]. The Guides were produced by the Center for Ecotourism and Sustainable Development (CESD) in cooperation with the Rainforest Alliance and the International Ecotourism Society (TIES).
The Guides are designed for both those interested in getting involved in the eco-certification process in the tourism sector and those simply interested in how it works. For those wanting more technical details, each Guide provides a pretty good "further reading" list.
The four guides are:
- Handbook 1: "A Simple User's Guide to Certification for Sustainable Tourism and Ecotourism" (English, Spanish)
- Handbook 2: "Practical Steps for Funding Certification of Tourism Businesses" (English, Spanish)
- Handbook 3: "Practical Steps for Marketing Tourism Certification" (English, Spanish)
- Handbook 4: "Financing Tourism Certification Programs" (English, Spanish)

Recientemente mientras hacer investigación para algunos artículos sobre turismo sostenible, encontré una herramienta gratis interesante que he decido transmitir a los estimados lectores del Temas Blog. También intento agregarlo a la Lista de Temas de Publicaciones Recomendadas.
La herramienta es una serie de cuatro manuales sobre la certificación en ecoturismo y turismo sostenible, todos gratis para descargar en inglés y español desde el sitio del Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo (BID) [BID y su Fondo Multilateral de Inversiones (FOMIN) financiaron los manuales.] Los manuales fueron producidos por el Centro de Ecoturismo y Desarrollo Sostenible (CESD) en cooperación con la Alianza para Bosques (Rainforest Alliance) y la Sociedad Internacional de Ecoturismo (TIES).
Los manuales son deseñados tanto para la gente interesada en envolverles en el proceso de eco-certificación en el sector turistico como los que simplemente tienen interés en entender como funciona el sistema de ecocertificación. Para los que desean más detalles tecnicos, cada guia suministra una lista bastante buena de otras referencias para consultar.
Las cuatros guias son:
- Manual 1: "Una guía simple para la certificación del turismo sostenible y el ecoturismo" (inglés, español)
- Manual 2: "Pasos prácticos para financiar la certificación de empresas turísticas" (inglés, español)
- Manual 3: "Pasos prácticos para mercadear la certificación turística" (inglés, español)
