Two years ago I did a post about a conference of catadores (waste pickers) in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, that featured a “fashion show” of clothing made from recovered materials, including a dress made from used calling cards.
The Brazilians are nothing if not creative. There are now several who spend much time dreaming up clothing and accessories made from end-of-life products. Below are two videos of a Brazilian TV program Tudo É Possível (“Everything is Possible”) that featured a fashion presentation of clothes designed by the lady being interviewed, Consuello Matroni, utilizing such materials as used PET bottles, video cassettes, audio cassette tape, aseptic cartons, motor oil packaging, x-ray films, trash bags, playing cards, drink cans, etc.
Watch the videos. Even if you cannot understand the Portuguese I think you’ll be intrigued, especially when you find out what some of the dresses are made of. And the models are not hard on the eyes either!
This third video is from the same designer, simply showing some of her designs and naming what they are made of (see if you can guess):
The same show also featured fashions from another designer made from metal scrap (primarily drink cans) and the plastic seals and rings from drink cans:
