THE RE-VAMPED TEMAS SITE IS FINALLY ON THE AIR!

Check it out! Utilize the all-new navbar and its drop-down menus to navigate quickly and easily around the site.

All the previously existing sections have been updated and revised. For example, the links section has had links checked and fixed, new ones added, and in some cases, their presentation changed to made them easier for the reader to use/follow (example: the links to international agreements is now organized by subject matter).

We've also added two new sections chock full of useful information:

* In our Friends of Temas page, we'll feature news and analysis of law and policy developments in LAC from experts we trust. To start with this includes: Argentine environmental norm and petroleum regulation updates from Gabriel Machiavello, plus an article by him on recent developments in environment insurance; Brazilian environmental law updates from Fernando Tabet, as well as Fernando's essay about the importance of the new forestry code for companies considering participation in Brazil's clean development mechanisms; an interview with Lorenzo de la Puente about what Peru is doing regarding climate change, and his firm's FAQ on what business investors need to bear in mind about Peruvian environment law when negotiating and implementing deals.

* The new Tools Section is loaded with good stuff, including:
- a glossary of key terms used in consumer and EHS policy (coming soon, Spanish and Portuguese versions!);
- the Temas Recommended Reading List;
- all sorts of great maps, including those for solar and wind power and reef maps;
- a collection of official policy statements/plans/strategies on such topics as general environment/sustainable development, biotechnology, energy, health, wastes, national implementation of the Stockholm (POPS) Convention, biodiversity, wetlands and protected areas;
- a complete set of direct links to all Climate Change Communications submitted by LAC nations, in all languages;
- a collection of useful inventories, including those for greenhouse gases, hazardous substances and wastewater;
- LAC environmental indicators and health/population statistics;
- a list of acronyms used frequently in environment and health policy in LAC.

*  We have added hundreds of new legal texts for download -- including many from states, provinces and municipalities -- to the Law and Policies DataBank! Texts have been added for all existing country lists, the Andean Community and MERCOSUR, and new lists started for Haiti, Suriname and the Central American Integration System (SICA).

More importantly, to make it easier to browse the laws/regulations, we have added 18 thematic lists covering: air pollution, batteries and lamps, biotechnology, consumer protection (including advertising rules), cosmetics and toiletries (includes personal hygiene products), detergents and cleaning products, ecolabling, economic instruments (ecotaxes, emissions charges, etc.), electrical and electronic equipment (EEE), energy and mining, environmental licensing, food and beverages, hazardous substances, packaging, pharmaceuticals, public health (includes OHS and tobacco control), wastes and recycling, water and sanitation.

30 November 2007
*  A copy of Keith Ripley's presentation to the 2007 E-Scrap conference in Atlanta has been added to the Temas in Media page.
