Bill Introduced in Argentina to Create Special Agency on Environmental Matters in Mining
On 11 December 2013 a bill was introduced in the Argentine Congress that would create an autonomous national agency for environmental protection (ANPAM) that would be marginally linked to the Secretariat on Environment and Sustainable Development (SAyDS). ANPAM would not only be the main implementing agency for Law 24.585 on environmental protection in mining and its amendments, substitutes and implementing measures, but also assess the effectiveness of existing legal and technical norms, propose any new ones needed, report annually to Congress on environment safety in mining, and develop a "citizen auditing" system for environmental protection and safety in mining.
